Ty Segall: Rock Music Acumen

Music fans consider artists like Dave Grohl or Jack White prolific.  Not that they aren't, but I think its hard to define what that is without taking into consideration what San Francisco Garage Rock revivalist Ty Segall has done in the last few years.  Since 2010, he has released or has collaborated on 25...yes 25 albums, compilations, and EPs.  He also has had his hand in producing a handful of underground releases.

And just now the music industry is starting to take notice.  In 2012 alone he took part in several releases to include his sixth solo album, his debut release from his Ty Segall band, and a terrific collaboration with West Coast underground artist White Fence.  Segall has picked up the rompus flag that has been laid down my a much more tame these days Jack White and has run away with it.

The great thing, for now, about Ty is he isn't interested in becoming a facet in today's excuse for a music industry.  He just loves making music and does it his way.  His face is starting to pop up on some mainstream music magazines (Spin, ect) but lets just hope he doesn't get sucked into conformity.

Here are ten great tracks to familiarize yourself with this growing rock virtuoso:

Girlfriend (Melted)
Would You Be My Love (Twins)
Fist Heart, Mighty Dawn Dart (Ty Rex EP)

My Sunshine (Melted)

Ty Segall Band- I Bought My Eyes (Slaughterhouse)

Gloria (Live)
Sad Fuzz (Melted)

Ty Segall/White Fense- Tounges (Hair)

Cherry Red (Spiders EP)

Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin- Get Along
