The Best Rare/Cover Foo Fighters songs

In the muck of drab that is the new Dave Grohl project album known as 'Sound City' coupled with the increasingly predictable-sounding Foo Fighter albums that have come out, I present you with several rare and/or cover tracks that rekindle the glory days of the band.

Late! (Dave Grohl demo)- Pokey the Little Puppy

Foo Fighters (X-Files album)- Down in the Park (by Gary Numan)

Foo Fighters- How I Miss You (B-Side)

Foo Fighters- Keep The Car Running (by Arcade Fire)

Foo Fighters (Godzilla Soundtrack)- A320

Late! (Dave Grohl)- Petrol CB

Foo Fighters- Fraternity (B-Side)

Foo Fighters- Ozone (by Kiss/Ace Frehley)

And last...but CERTAINLY NOT least....
Foo Fighters- With Arms Wide Open (by Creed)

The Pixies Co-Efficient

Despite what anyone will tell you, the Pixies are the most influential band over all 90's/early 2000's alternative rock music; much like how the Velvet Underground are STILL a huge influence on indie/underground music today.  You may not hear the direct correlation unless you are a musician yourself or have a keen ear for time signatures, chord changes, beats, etc.  If you have no idea who the Pixies are or if you've never heard any of their songs, I suggest checking out 1989's Doolittle and you'll see how ahead of their time they were (though my favorite will always be their debut Surfer Rosa, it may not be the best place for a curious Pixies fan to start).

I now present you eight random songs that have a 'sound' that can directly be tied back to the Pixies.  Above the video I will put the 'equation' so you can better understand and appreciate the influence.

Orbit- Medicine

Modest Mouse- Float On

U-Mass * 2=
Just about anything from early Everclear

Smashing Pumpkins- Today

Bush- Little Things

Where Is My Mind + Hey + River Euphrates=
Blood On The Wall- Mary Susan (weak live version)

Toadies- Tyler

Nirvana- Tourettes

Ty Segall: Rock Music Acumen

Music fans consider artists like Dave Grohl or Jack White prolific.  Not that they aren't, but I think its hard to define what that is without taking into consideration what San Francisco Garage Rock revivalist Ty Segall has done in the last few years.  Since 2010, he has released or has collaborated on 25...yes 25 albums, compilations, and EPs.  He also has had his hand in producing a handful of underground releases.

And just now the music industry is starting to take notice.  In 2012 alone he took part in several releases to include his sixth solo album, his debut release from his Ty Segall band, and a terrific collaboration with West Coast underground artist White Fence.  Segall has picked up the rompus flag that has been laid down my a much more tame these days Jack White and has run away with it.

The great thing, for now, about Ty is he isn't interested in becoming a facet in today's excuse for a music industry.  He just loves making music and does it his way.  His face is starting to pop up on some mainstream music magazines (Spin, ect) but lets just hope he doesn't get sucked into conformity.

Here are ten great tracks to familiarize yourself with this growing rock virtuoso:

Girlfriend (Melted)
Would You Be My Love (Twins)
Fist Heart, Mighty Dawn Dart (Ty Rex EP)

My Sunshine (Melted)

Ty Segall Band- I Bought My Eyes (Slaughterhouse)

Gloria (Live)
Sad Fuzz (Melted)

Ty Segall/White Fense- Tounges (Hair)

Cherry Red (Spiders EP)

Ty Segall and Mikal Cronin- Get Along

Guided By Voices might be the most prolific band of the 90's/00's.  They've released what seems like hundreds of albums and everything they do is controlled by GBV alone.  A band to really admire who also have some great tunes.
